INSTRUCTION: LOOK FOR THE MEANINGS AND/OR DESCRIPTIONS OF THE FOLLOWING WORDS IN YOUR SCIENCE BOOKS UNIT 9.
TEMPERATURE:weather is about temperature, precipitation and wind speed. When temperature is high, we say it is hot.
PRECIPITATION: is the amount of water that falls of the land in a specific place.
RAIN GAUGE: we use a rain gauge to measure precipitation.
WIND: win is the movement of air.
HURRICANE: is a storm with extremely strong wind.
TRIBUTARIES:rivers that flow into others rivers are called tributaries.
RIVER COURSE: is the route the river follows from the source to the mouth.
FLOW:the flow is the amount of water that a river carries.
DAM:is a wall that is built to hold back water.
CANAL: canals are man-made rivers.
LAKES: lakes are huge areas of water surrounded by land.
RESERVOIRS: are man-men lakes.
UPPER COURSE: is near the source. It carries only a little water, and it moves very fast.
LOWER COURSE: is where the river meets the ocean or lake.
MIDDLE COURSE: flows through areas where there is not much change in altitude.
MEANDERS: sometimes the river bends and twist in this part. These bends are called meanders.
INSTRUCTION: ANSWER THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS:
WHAT AFFECT THE LANDSCAPE? The landscape is affected by the weather and the water.
WE FIND WATER IN THESE THREE FORMS: rivers, lakes, reservoirs and oceans.
NAME THE TYPES OF WEATHER: heat and cold
NAME THE INSTRUMENTS WE USE TO MEASURE TEMPERATURE, PRECIPITATION AND WIND: to measure temperature we use a thermometer, to measure precipitation we use a rain gauge and to measure wind we use a wind sock or weather vane.
