Soil is the layer of the earth, water and air that cover the rocks, is where the roots and plants grow.

The TOP LAYER has LEAF MOLD: Made up of dead animals and the remains of plants.

Soil can be fertile, poor or arid.

Erosion wears away the soil and plant life disappears.
